Japan Lumber Journal: Russian Timber News, January

February, 1, 2010

JLJ has published news about Russian - Japanese market in the beginning of the 2010.

At the beginning of the year, domestic manufacturers, wholesalers, and importers of Russian lumber gathered to exchange their forecasts about supply-demand situation for Russian lumber in 2010. There were a variety of opinions depending on where one stands.

However, the mainstream opinions were as follows: “Japan’s log import from Russia will be even less than the previous year.” “Import of rough lumber is transitional. In future, import of finished products will increase.” “As the quality of Russian lumber is high, it is best suited for solid small-diameter lumber.” More newcomers are expected to enter into the new suppliers (14-15 companies) of locally-sawn products, which have rapidly been increasing since last summer.
