Official Arrested for Bribery

The prosecutor’s office in Kuragino district initiated a criminal case against an official. The official of a state forestry unit illegally allocated cutting units to business organizations for financial rewards. The auctions were not held, and specially protected forest areas – cedar forests on the area of nearly 40 ha – were destroyed. The general audit identified the huge damage made to the forest. According to the preliminary estimates, it exceeded 11mn rubles.

The prosecutor’s work resulted in the criminal case initiated by the investigation committee under the prosecutor’s office as stipulated in p. 2 Article 290 of RF Criminal Code “taking a bribe by an official for illegal actions.”

Currently, the official of Kuragino forestry unit is in custody, he is accused of crimes under two articles of the Criminal Code: p. 3 Art. 260 and p.2 Art. 290 of RF CC. Among the suspects of illegal cutting of timber under the came case are the heads of businesses that got the cutting units for money and services.
